The historic Ceremonial Groundbreaking for the Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial leads the article line-up in this special Centennial Anniversary Edition of The Sphinx. United States Presidents, government leaders, icons from the Civil Rights Movement, celebrities and Americans from all walks of life who were affected by the movement joined with the family of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for the memorial's groundbreaking on the National Mall in the nation's capital.
The Centennial Anniversary Edition magazine also highlights the Fraternity's 14th Congressional Black Caucus Reception in Washington, D.C. and provides features and in-depth coverage of the Fraternity's 100th Anniversary Convention, also held in the nation's capital. The Centennial coverage begins with former Fraternity Historian Dr. Thomas D. Pawley III's tribute to the organization's Seven Jewels in his feature article entitled, "Alpha Phi Alpha Hymn to the Founders: Penning the Centennial Anthem."
Also in the issue, Alpha Brothers Dr. Ronald Peters and Dr. Stanley T. Lewis take a serious look at the topic of HIV/AIDS in the African American community as they address the pandemic and examine the myths surrounding the issue.
